Jeollabuk-do was fixed as the venue for hosting the Asia Pacific Masters Games 2022 at Olympic Museum located in Lausanne, Switzerland, through event bidding presentations and qualification examinations.

Jeollabuk-do strongly appealed to the qualification examination for attracting the Asia Pacific Masters Games 2022 for ‘necessarily holding the Asia Pacific Masters Games 2022 in Jeonbuk’ by a total of four criteria, including, (1) experiences and facilities sufficient to host international games, (2) Jeonbuk’s charms as the best travel destination for experiencing Korea, (3) Jeollabuk-do residents’ support for the Asia Pacific Masters Games Jeonbuk 2022, and (4) Korean Government’s guarantee and Jeollabuk-do’ hosting will, so that the 2nd Asia Pacific Masters Games 2022 was decided to be held in Jeonbuk unanimously.

With regard to the establishment of its attraction to Jeonbuk, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism expressed, “hosting the Asia Pacific Masters Games 2022 in Jeonbuk will largely contribute to our current government’s national policy agenda of improving the rate of people’s participation in sports for all to 64.5% until 2022 through the vivid country in which all people enjoy sports”. Korean Sports & Olympic Committee expected, “nationally, this event will contribute to attracting South-North Korean Joint Olympic in 2023”. Korea Tourism Organization explained, “this big event will publicize Korean tourist industry development and Jeollabuk-do tourism resources to the world and so we will actively support the success of this event in 2022”.

The Asia Pacific Masters Games Jeonbuk 2022 is recognized to have high economic effects, with 6.4 billion won in total cost present value, 22.5 billion won in total benefit present value, and 3.5’* in benefit-cost (B/C) ratio. Owing to holding major sports games, it is expected to generate regional economic spillover effects, including 80.7 billion won in production/value added inducement effects and 1,049 persons in employment effects.

Jeollabuk-do plans to undertake its full-scale schedule for holding this event, including the formal venue signing ceremony with IMGA according to the fixed venue (in Jeollabuk-do in November 2019), and forming the organizing committee of the Asia Pacific Masters Games Jeonbuk 2022 (2022 JB-APMG) through acknowledgement by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (in February 2020).
