Jeonbuk Province decided to focus on hydrogen-fueled electric vehicle industry highlighted as the future new growth engine industry.

Jeonbuk plans to invest the project cost of 969.5 billion won in total by stage from 2020 to 2030 to distribute the hydrogen cars (passenger car) of 14,000 units, the hydrogen buses of 400 units, and the hydrogen stations of 24 units all over this province.

As it is expected to produce hydrogen commercial vehicles since 2020 at the factory of Hyundai Motors in Jeonju, it is promoted in full scale to distribute hydrogen fuel cell vehicles and establish hydrogen refueling stations in the dimension of Jeonbuk, so that it is predicted to ensure the new growth engine of commercial vehicle industry within our province.

Our government has recently announced its policy for supporting the formation of hydrogen industry ecosystems and supplying or enlarging hydrogen vehicle and refueling infrastructure, which are regarded as a new growth engine industry, in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

The main contents of this policy include supplying the hydrogen vehicles of 15,000 units, establishing the hydrogen fueling stations of 310 units, and distributing the hydrogen intra-city buses of 1,000 units up to 2022. In combination with these governmental policies, Hyundai Motor Company also plans to build the production system of commercializing hydrogen cars and promote the investment and technological development in the field of hydrogen vehicles.

Because hydrogen passenger cars(Nexo) are produced in Ulsan factories in the present, in parallel with the governmental policies as well as the production of hydrogen commercial vehicles in Hyundai Motors in Jeonju, Jeonbuk also plans to promote constructing hydrogen vehicle and refueling infrastructure by stage.

In addition, in order to enable commercial vehicle part companies within this province to enter hydrogen commercial vehicle industry, this province plans to combine building hydrogen fuel cell-related infrastucture with supporting part companies, and further select and support 9 projects in the scale of 35 billion won including forming hydrogen fuel cell reliability evaluation base(Buan).
