Saemangeum National Arboretum Is Created

Starting the Project since 2018 by Passing Preliminary Feasibilty Study

 

The Establishment Project of Saemangeum National Arboretum passed preliminary feasibility study by the Ministry of Strategy and Finance to start its full-scale project since 2018.

 

Saemangeum National Arboretum will become the 4th grand national arboretum following Pocheon in Gyeonggi(Korea National Arboretum), Bonghwa in Gyeongbuk(Baekdudaegan National Arboretum), and Sejon-si (Central National Arboretum) by investing 153 billion won to be launched in 2018 and then be opened in 2027.

 

Saemangeum National Arboretum will be created in the scale of 151ha composed of a total of four zones including cultural service zone, coastal plant-themed exhibition zone, coastal plant research zone, and salt plant research zone within Saemangeum agricultural lands.

 

Its major facilities will include visitor centers, Saemangeum story farms, salt/ island botanical gardens, plant domes, proliferation green houses, salt plant ecology institutes, and rare botanical gardens.

 

Saemangeum National Arboretum has promoted its project in accordance with the necessities including developing salt tolerance and windbreak species in consideration of polder lands, establishing reclaimed forests containing alternative plant genes, and managing salt plants.

 

As Jeollabuk-do has established a coast-type luxury arboretum in Saemangeum, it will do its best to promote the project according to plan in cooperation with Korea Forest Service and local authorities.
