Jeollabuk-do Falling deep into the Smell of Indian Ink in Deepening Autumn

As World Calligraphy Biennale of Jeollabuk-do faces its 12th event this year, this event is held at the International Conference Hall in Sori Arts Center of Jeollabuk-do located in Jeonju, Jeollabuk-do, from October 12 to November 10

A biennale originated in an Italian word meaning ‘biannually’, that is, ‘every other year’, of which ‘World Calligraphy Biennale of Jeollabuk-do’ is the first calligraphy biennale except international art events.

The biennale of this year focuses on the diversification of participating classes, the expansion of practicality (pragmatism) and application in calligraphy, and activities contributing to communities.

According to this focus, this biennale largely lowers the age groups of biennale invited artists so as to expand the opportunities for young artists. Furthermore, this event exhibits diverse works created by professional calligraphers as well as amateur calligraphers, oriental and occidental calligraphers, and overseas Korean calligraphers.

In addition, this biennale explores and discovers illustrated (pictorial) poems representing specialty products and tourist sites in 14 cities/counties, and so expresses them into calligraphy and publicizes them so that this biennale can contribute to local economic development including linkage to tourist industry.
